How it works

Three levels of action, nine molecules, one stick

A chronic respiratory problem has three roots: the mucus that clogs the bronchi, inflammation of the airways and an immune system that is unable to defend the lungs. Elisir Respira acts on all three at the same time.

Cleansing: dissolves mucus and clears the bronchi

Acetylcysteine breaks the disulfide bonds that make mucus thick: it becomes fluid and can be expelled. It is also the precursor of glutathione, the main antioxidant in the lungs. Plantain helps expel mucus and protects irritated mucous membranes.

Protection: calms airway inflammation

Gingerols and shogaols from ginger inhibit COX-2; glycyrrhizin from licorice has a spasmolytic action on the bronchial muscles and soothes dry cough; green tea catechins protect lung tissue from oxidative stress; withania reduces cortisol, and high cortisol lowers your defences.

Immunity: active defences, from the gut to the lungs

The beta-glucans in Saccharomyces cerevisiae activate macrophages and Natural Killer cells. A healthy gut produces IgA that reach the respiratory mucous membranes. Vitamin C concentrates in the cells of the airways at levels far higher than in plasma; vitamin E protects cell membranes from oxidation — essential for those who have smoked.
